Es un momento de reflexi\u00f3n sobre un pasado reciente que averg\u00fcenza a la naci\u00f3n, pues se permiti\u00f3 que ni\u00f1os ind\u00edgenas fueran abusados en escuelas residenciales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Esta jornada es conocida tambi\u00e9n como el D\u00eda de la Camisa Naranja y el objetivo es honrar a los sobrevivientes de los internados y a aquellos que no pudieron regresar a sus casas. Se estima que m\u00e1s de seis mil ni\u00f1os perdieron la vida mientras asist\u00edan a esas escuelas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fue un largo periodo que se extendi\u00f3 desde 1857 hasta 1996, en el cual m\u00e1s de 150 mil ni\u00f1os de los pueblos originarios fueron arrancados de sus hogares y obligados a asistir a escuelas administradas por la Iglesia Cat\u00f3lica y financiadas por los gobiernos de turno.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En dichos centros se prohib\u00eda a los menores hablar sus idiomas nativos, se intentaba aculturizarlos y a los que se resist\u00edan se les castigaba de manera violenta con abusos de todo tipo, al tiempo que permanec\u00edan alejados de sus familias y sus comunidades.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Un d\u00eda de reflexi\u00f3n<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En junio de 2021, tras el hallazgo de 215 tumbas sin identificaci\u00f3n en un antiguo internado en Kamloops, Columbia Brit\u00e1nica, el gobierno federal decidi\u00f3 instituir el 30 de septiembre como el D\u00eda Nacional de la Verdad y la Reconciliaci\u00f3n (NDTR).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Este martes, en Ottawa el primer ministro Mark Carney, pronunci\u00f3 un discurso en la Colina del Parlamento durante la reuni\u00f3n denominada \u201cRecordando a los Ni\u00f1os\u201d organizada por varias instituciones, entre ellas el Centro Nacional para la Verdad y la Reconciliaci\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Asimismo, se est\u00e1n llevando a cabo en muchas ciudades del pa\u00eds eventos para conmemorar esta jornada. En Toronto, el acontecimiento incluye una reuni\u00f3n que recuerda el tr\u00e1gico legado de esa parte de la historia. En Vancouver, se realiza una caminata conmemorativa.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>La percepci\u00f3n de las nuevas generaciones<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En el D\u00eda de la Verdad y la Reconciliaci\u00f3n se conoce una encuesta realizada por el instituto Leger, para la Asociaci\u00f3n de Estudios Canadienses, que revela que los ciudadanos est\u00e1n divididos sobre si el pa\u00eds pertenece principalmente a los Pueblos Originarios.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El 38 por ciento de los entrevistados, considera que Canad\u00e1 pertenece \u201cante todo\u201d a los Pueblos Originarios, un 43 por ciento, discrepa de esta aseveraci\u00f3n y un 19 por ciento, prefiri\u00f3 no responder por no tener clara una opini\u00f3n al respecto de este tema.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lo interesante de esta investigaci\u00f3n es que los canadienses m\u00e1s j\u00f3venes, en la franja etaria entre los 18 y los 24 a\u00f1os, son mucho m\u00e1s propensos a entender que el pa\u00eds pertenece principalmente a los Pueblos Ind\u00edgenas, as\u00ed lo hizo saber el 58% de los entrevistados.
