El colegio universitario confirm\u00f3 el jueves, que \u00e9sta es la principal raz\u00f3n para cancelar la oferta de sus cursos de ingl\u00e9s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En un comunicado, los responsables del George Brown College, informaron que todos los estudiantes actualmente matriculados en sus cursos, tendr\u00e1n la oportunidad de completar todos los niveles del programa para el final del a\u00f1o acad\u00e9mico 2025-2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Asimismo, aseveraron que est\u00e1n satisfechos, porque desde que se implement\u00f3 el programa en 1969, ha contribuido significativamente no s\u00f3lo a su instituci\u00f3n, sino tambi\u00e9n a la comunidad en general y a much\u00edsimos estudiantes a lo largo de varias d\u00e9cadas. Se han comprometido a apoyar a los profesores, estudiantes y al personal durante la transici\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>El contexto del cierre del programa<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La cancelaci\u00f3n de este programa de ingl\u00e9s, se da en el marco de la lucha por la supervivencia de las universidades p\u00fablicas de Ontario, tras la ca\u00edda repentina del n\u00famero de estudiantes internacionales matriculados, debido al l\u00edmite impuesto por el gobierno.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seg\u00fan los defensores de la educaci\u00f3n postsecundaria en Ontario, las universidades pasaron a depender de los estudiantes internacionales por causa de la congelaci\u00f3n de la matr\u00edcula nacional y el aumento de los costos. Con los cortes, han perdido un tercio de sus ingresos.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Qu\u00e9 dice el gobierno de Ontario<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Las autoridades provinciales invirtieron el a\u00f1o pasado, m\u00e1s de mil millones de d\u00f3lares en apoyo a las universidades, pero ese valor fue insuficiente. El George Brown, al anunciar el cierre de su programa, dio a entender que necesitaba ayuda tanto provincial, como federal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Por su parte, el Ministerio de Universidades y Colegios de Ontario, respondi\u00f3 que la decisi\u00f3n de cerrar dicho programa, no era su responsabilidad. Dijeron que se han limitado a cumplir con sus compromisos de financiaci\u00f3n para las \u00e1reas STEM y oficios especializados.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>La voz del sindicato de la categor\u00eda<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El sindicato que representa a los trabajadores de la universidad, OPSEU, lament\u00f3 la finalizaci\u00f3n del programa que durante d\u00e9cadas ha sido considerado emblem\u00e1tico de esa instituci\u00f3n. Como programa de preparaci\u00f3n acad\u00e9mica, garantizaba que los estudiantes iniciaran sus estudios en otros programas de la universidad.
