La solicitud llega en el momento m\u00e1s tenso de las relaciones comerciales entre los tres pa\u00edses en d\u00e9cadas.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>\u00bfQu\u00e9 es el CUSMA y por qu\u00e9 importa tanto?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El CUSMA es el acuerdo trilateral de libre comercio que reemplaz\u00f3 al TLCAN en 2020 y que regula cerca de 1.3 billones de d\u00f3lares en intercambio de bienes y servicios entre Canad\u00e1, Estados Unidos y M\u00e9xico cada a\u00f1o. Para Canad\u00e1, el tratado funciona como un escudo: protege a buena parte de sus exportaciones de los aranceles adicionales que Washington ha impuesto desde que Trump regres\u00f3 a la Casa Blanca.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sin ese escudo, productos como el acero, el aluminio, los veh\u00edculos y los alimentos procesados quedar\u00edan expuestos a tarifas que encarecer\u00edan la producci\u00f3n, reducir\u00edan empleos y presionar\u00edan los precios al consumidor, incluyendo los que pagan cotidianamente las familias inmigrantes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>\u00bfCu\u00e1l es el plazo y qu\u00e9 puede pasar si no hay acuerdo?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El mecanismo del tratado establece que antes del 1 de julio cada pa\u00eds debe notificar a los otros si quiere renovarlo por 16 a\u00f1os, o si prefiere entrar en un proceso de revisi\u00f3n anual que puede extenderse hasta por una d\u00e9cada. LeBlanc fue directo: quiere la renovaci\u00f3n directa y salir del ciclo de incertidumbre que implicar\u00eda la opci\u00f3n alternativa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El primer ministro Mark Carney ha se\u00f1alado que los aranceles que Trump ya impuso constituyen una violaci\u00f3n del acuerdo actual, lo cual complica la negociaci\u00f3n desde el arranque, porque llegas a la mesa acusando a la otra parte de incumplir el contrato que est\u00e1s tratando de renovar.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>\u00bfQu\u00e9 quiere Trump del nuevo acuerdo?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Todas las se\u00f1ales desde Washington apuntan a que la administraci\u00f3n no quiere una renovaci\u00f3n simple. Entre sus exigencias est\u00e1n cambios profundos en el sector automotriz y mayor acceso al mercado l\u00e1cteo canadiense, que Canad\u00e1 protege con cuotas. Son puntos en los que hist\u00f3ricamente Ottawa y Washington han estado muy lejos de ponerse de acuerdo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">M\u00e9xico, por su parte, enfrenta presiones propias desde Washington en materia migratoria y de seguridad, lo que convierte estas negociaciones en un tablero de tres actores con agendas que rara vez se alinean completamente.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 le interesa esto a la comunidad latina en Canad\u00e1?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El resultado de esta negociaci\u00f3n tocar\u00e1 directamente el costo de vida y las oportunidades de empleo en Canad\u00e1 durante los pr\u00f3ximos a\u00f1os. Una ruptura del CUSMA o una renegociaci\u00f3n larga y conflictiva traer\u00eda m\u00e1s incertidumbre econ\u00f3mica, m\u00e1s p\u00e9rdidas de empleo en sectores expuestos a la competencia estadounidense y mayor presi\u00f3n sobre los precios de los alimentos, algo que ya pesa sobre los hogares de menores ingresos, entre ellos muchas familias inmigrantes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La fecha clave es el 1 de julio.
