El informe proyecta que en 2025 se diagnosticar\u00e1n 1.650 nuevos casos, frente a los 1.320 reportados en 2005, seg\u00fan <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Statistics Canada<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Entre 1984 y 2005, la incidencia del c\u00e1ncer de cuello uterino se redujo en promedio un 2,2% cada a\u00f1o. Sin embargo, entre 2005 y 2021 ese ritmo cay\u00f3 significativamente, con una reducci\u00f3n de apenas el 0,3% anual. Durante algunos periodos recientes, las tasas incluso aumentaron: entre 2015 y 2019, se registr\u00f3 un incremento del 3,7%, convirti\u00e9ndose en el tipo de c\u00e1ncer de mayor crecimiento entre las mujeres en ese momento.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Evaluaci\u00f3n de la situaci\u00f3n y proyecciones nacionales<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El c\u00e1ncer de cuello uterino es uno de los pocos tipos de c\u00e1ncer que se considera potencialmente eliminable, debido a su asociaci\u00f3n directa con el virus del papiloma humano (VPH) y la disponibilidad de pruebas de detecci\u00f3n y vacunas preventivas. Sin embargo, la participaci\u00f3n en programas de tamizaje ha disminuido: en 2024, solo el 69% de las mujeres entre 25 y 69 a\u00f1os se realizaron una prueba de Papanicolaou en los \u00faltimos tres a\u00f1os, frente al 74% registrado en 2017, seg\u00fan <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Statistics Canada<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El informe, elaborado por la Sociedad Canadiense del C\u00e1ncer, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Statistics Canada<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> y la Agencia de Salud P\u00fablica de Canad\u00e1, estima que m\u00e1s de 254.000 personas en total ser\u00e1n diagnosticadas con alg\u00fan tipo de c\u00e1ncer en 2025, lo que representa un incremento del 3,1% respecto al a\u00f1o anterior. Este aumento est\u00e1 vinculado al crecimiento y envejecimiento de la poblaci\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El documento se\u00f1ala que se han logrado reducciones significativas en las tasas de mortalidad de otros tipos de c\u00e1ncer, como pulmonar, colorrectal y de vejiga, gracias a la mejora en los programas de prevenci\u00f3n, detecci\u00f3n temprana y tratamientos. No obstante, el c\u00e1ncer de p\u00e1ncreas contin\u00faa siendo una de las principales causas de muerte por c\u00e1ncer en el pa\u00eds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Para mejorar la eficacia del control, varias provincias est\u00e1n adoptando las pruebas de detecci\u00f3n del VPH en reemplazo de la prueba de Papanicolaou, dado que estas permiten identificar el virus antes de que provoque anomal\u00edas celulares. Jurisdicciones como Ontario, Columbia Brit\u00e1nica, Isla del Pr\u00edncipe Eduardo y los Territorios del Noroeste ya han completado esa transici\u00f3n.
