En 2023, alrededor de 8,2 millones de personas fueron diagnosticadas con tuberculosis por primera vez, la cifra m\u00e1s alta desde que la OMS comenz\u00f3 a monitorear la enfermedad en 1995. Este aumento, desde los 7,5 millones de casos registrados en 2022, sit\u00faa a la tuberculosis como la principal causa de muerte por enfermedades infecciosas, por encima de la COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A pesar de que las muertes relacionadas con la tuberculosis disminuyeron ligeramente, pasando de 1,32 millones en 2022 a 1,25 millones en 2023, la cantidad total de personas que enfermaron de tuberculosis aument\u00f3 a 10,8 millones. Las zonas m\u00e1s afectadas son 30 pa\u00edses con alta carga de morbilidad, como India, Indonesia y China, que juntos representan el 56% de los casos mundiales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El informe destaca las barreras persistentes en la lucha contra la tuberculosis, incluida una grave insuficiencia de fondos. Aunque la meta de financiamiento anual es de USD 22 mil millones, solo se alcanz\u00f3 el 26%, es decir, USD 5,7 mil millones, lo cual afecta la implementaci\u00f3n de servicios de prevenci\u00f3n, diagn\u00f3stico y tratamiento en pa\u00edses de ingresos bajos y medianos, que soportan el 98% de la carga de la enfermedad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adem\u00e1s, solo el 68% de las personas con tuberculosis multirresistente al tratamiento (TB-MDR\/RR) ha logrado superar la enfermedad. De los 400.000 casos estimados en 2023, solo el 44% fue diagnosticado y tratado, lo que subraya la crisis que enfrenta la salud p\u00fablica para contener esta variante.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Factores de riesgo y retos estructurales<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El informe de la OMS tambi\u00e9n se\u00f1ala los factores de riesgo asociados a la tuberculosis, como la desnutrici\u00f3n, VIH, consumo de alcohol, tabaquismo y diabetes. La pobreza, los conflictos, la migraci\u00f3n y el cambio clim\u00e1tico, combinados con la falta de financiamiento para investigaci\u00f3n en vacunas y nuevos tratamientos, complican a\u00fan m\u00e1s el panorama.
