Esa extensi\u00f3n corre hasta el 10 de octubre de 2026, lo que da un margen importante para quienes se encuentran en esa situaci\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Qu\u00e9 cambia con la extensi\u00f3n<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Las medidas temporales del EI incluyen condiciones m\u00e1s flexibles para acceder al beneficio en ciertas regiones, per\u00edodos de espera reducidos y, en algunos casos, semanas adicionales de prestaciones para quienes trabajan en sectores directamente vinculados a las exportaciones hacia Estados Unidos. No todos los trabajadores califican autom\u00e1ticamente: la elegibilidad depende de la regi\u00f3n donde se trabaja, el sector de empleo y el n\u00famero de horas acumuladas antes de la p\u00e9rdida del trabajo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El programa Work-Sharing, que permite a las empresas reducir la jornada de sus empleados en lugar de despedirlos, sigue disponible. Desde el inicio de la crisis arancelaria en 2025, m\u00e1s de 54,000 trabajadores han sido cubiertos por este programa a trav\u00e9s de m\u00e1s de 1,500 acuerdos aprobados, lo que evit\u00f3 un estimado de 20,000 despidos.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Por qu\u00e9 esto es relevante para los trabajadores inmigrantes<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los trabajadores inmigrantes tienen derecho a acceder al seguro de empleo en las mismas condiciones que los ciudadanos canadienses, siempre que hayan acumulado las horas requeridas y hayan hecho las contribuciones correspondientes a trav\u00e9s de sus cheques de pago. Sin embargo, existe una brecha de informaci\u00f3n importante: muchos no saben que tienen derecho a solicitar EI, no conocen el proceso o asumen que su estatus migratorio les impide acceder al beneficio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eso no es correcto. Quien tenga n\u00famero de seguro social (SIN) y haya trabajado legalmente en Canad\u00e1, tiene derecho a aplicar al seguro de empleo cuando pierde su trabajo sin causa justificada o cuando su jornada se reduce de manera significativa. La aplicaci\u00f3n se hace en l\u00ednea a trav\u00e9s del portal de Service Canada y, en condiciones normales, el primer pago llega entre dos y cuatro semanas despu\u00e9s de la solicitud.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>El fondo de 570 millones para reconversi\u00f3n laboral<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adem\u00e1s del EI, el gobierno anunci\u00f3 una inversi\u00f3n de 570 millones de d\u00f3lares a trav\u00e9s del Workforce Tariff Response, un programa orientado a ayudar a 66,000 trabajadores en industrias vulnerables a adquirir nuevas habilidades y encontrar empleo en sectores con mejor perspectiva. Los fondos se distribuyen a trav\u00e9s de acuerdos con las provincias y se canalizan hacia programas de capacitaci\u00f3n, subsidios de empleo y apoyo para b\u00fasqueda de trabajo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Para saber si se califica a alguno de estos programas, el punto de partida es Service Canada, ya sea en persona en uno de los centros de empleo o a trav\u00e9s del sitio web del gobierno federal.
