El pa\u00eds se convierte as\u00ed en uno de los primeros del mundo, y el primero en \u00c1frica, en implementar esta nueva herramienta biom\u00e9dica considerada por investigadores como uno de los avances m\u00e1s prometedores en prevenci\u00f3n del VIH.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El f\u00e1rmaco est\u00e1 siendo administrado inicialmente en el marco de un estudio de implementaci\u00f3n dirigido por el Instituto de Salud Reproductiva y VIH (RHI) de la Universidad de Wits, con financiaci\u00f3n de Unitaid. El proyecto prev\u00e9 incorporar a 2.000 participantes y darles seguimiento durante al menos un a\u00f1o para evaluar su uso en condiciones reales de los servicios de salud.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sud\u00e1frica contin\u00faa siendo el pa\u00eds con mayor n\u00famero de nuevas infecciones por VIH a nivel mundial. Se estima que casi uno de cada cinco adultos vive con el virus y que, en 2023, se registraron alrededor de 170.000 nuevas infecciones. Hasta ahora, la principal herramienta de prevenci\u00f3n para personas VIH negativas hab\u00eda sido la profilaxis oral diaria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La introducci\u00f3n de lenacapavir representa una alternativa para poblaciones con dificultades de adherencia a la medicaci\u00f3n diaria o que requieren m\u00e9todos m\u00e1s discretos, como j\u00f3venes, trabajadores sexuales y personas LGBTQ. Autoridades sanitarias y equipos cl\u00ednicos consideran que la administraci\u00f3n semestral podr\u00eda mejorar la cobertura y continuidad de la prevenci\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El despliegue nacional m\u00e1s amplio est\u00e1 previsto para 2026, con 400.000 dosis adquiridas mediante un acuerdo entre Gilead Sciences, fabricante del medicamento, y el Fondo Mundial contra el SIDA.
