Aunque Canad\u00e1 muestra una reducci\u00f3n en la prevalencia de esta afecci\u00f3n en comparaci\u00f3n con d\u00e9cadas pasadas, el pa\u00eds enfrenta un problema creciente: la mortalidad por enfermedad renal est\u00e1 aumentando de forma significativa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La investigaci\u00f3n, publicada en la revista m\u00e9dica <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lancet<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> y basada en datos de 204 pa\u00edses, se\u00f1ala que la ERC se ha convertido en la novena causa principal de muerte en el mundo y la duod\u00e9cima causa de discapacidad. Entre los factores que impulsan su expansi\u00f3n se encuentran el envejecimiento poblacional, el aumento global de la diabetes y la hipertensi\u00f3n, y los efectos del cambio clim\u00e1tico sobre la salud renal.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Canad\u00e1 registra menos casos, pero m\u00e1s muertes<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En 2023, la prevalencia de enfermedad renal cr\u00f3nica en Canad\u00e1 fue del 9,6%, una cifra inferior a la de Estados Unidos (11,7%) y a la media global (14,2%). Adem\u00e1s, desde 1990 hasta 2023, el pa\u00eds logr\u00f3 reducir esta prevalencia en 6,9%, un indicador que sugiere avances en el control de factores de riesgo como la diabetes y la presi\u00f3n arterial.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sin embargo, el estudio revela un dato preocupante: la mortalidad por ERC en Canad\u00e1 aument\u00f3 un 73,3% desde 1990, alcanzando una tasa estandarizada por edad de 17,5 muertes por cada 100.000 habitantes en 2023. Es decir, una proporci\u00f3n creciente de canadienses que viven con esta enfermedad est\u00e1n muriendo a causa de ella.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El Dr. Marcello Tonelli, coautor del estudio, profesor de la Universidad de Calgary y presidente de la Sociedad Internacional de Nefrolog\u00eda, advierte que el problema no radica en el control de los factores de riesgo, sino en la falta de detecci\u00f3n temprana. Tonelli pide reforzar la detecci\u00f3n temprana especialmente en poblaciones ind\u00edgenas, as\u00ed como en adultos \u201cm\u00e1s j\u00f3venes\u201d, entre 45 y 60 a\u00f1os, quienes pueden desarrollar la enfermedad sin s\u00edntomas evidentes.
