Su recelo m\u00e1s recurrente es en relaci\u00f3n a la cada vez mayor actividad en la regi\u00f3n por parte del gobierno ruso de Vladimir Putin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En ese contexto se han iniciado las obras de la construcci\u00f3n de un nuevo rompehielos nacional denominado Polar Max, con el que se espera poder reforzar la defensa del \u00c1rtico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En julio del a\u00f1o pasado, se anunci\u00f3 la creaci\u00f3n de una alianza trilateral entre Canad\u00e1, Estados Unidos y Finlandia, justamente con el prop\u00f3sito de fortalecer la seguridad de ese codiciado espacio, donde se sabe que Rusia cuenta con numerosos rompehielos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A una ceremonia de corte de acero, realizada el mi\u00e9rcoles, en la capital finlandesa, Helsinki, se dieron cita varios dignatarios y marcaron el inicio de las obras del nuevo rompehielos canadiense. Las autoridades presentes dijeron que aunque se trata de un lugar remoto, el cambio clim\u00e1tico lo ha hecho accesible, pero sigue siendo estrat\u00e9gicamente importante.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Sobre el nuevo rompehielos<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Un informe de la Oficina de Responsabilidad Gubernamental de Estados Unidos, asegura que no se ha construido un rompehielos polar pesado en casi 50 a\u00f1os.\u00a0El \u00faltimo inici\u00f3 sus servicios en 1976 y se trata del guardacostas Polar Star, de 110 metros de eslora.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Autoridades federales han confirmado que para una defensa segura, son necesarios entre ocho y nueve rompehielos, lo ideal ser\u00eda una combinaci\u00f3n de guarda-hielos pesados para la protecci\u00f3n polar y guada-hielos medianos para la protecci\u00f3n \u00e1rtica.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sin embargo, a\u00f1adieron que construir un rompehielos es un gran desaf\u00edo, pues debe conseguir resistir el brutal impacto en el hielo de hasta 6,4 metros de espesor, as\u00ed como las grandes variaciones de temperaturas del mar y del aire. Asimismo, dijeron que desean aprovechar la avanzada experiencia y tecnolog\u00eda finlandesa en construcci\u00f3n naval.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Qu\u00e9 espera el gobierno federal<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Para Stephen Fuhr, ministro de Adquisiciones de Defensa de Canad\u00e1, el pa\u00eds est\u00e1 integrando su guardia costera en el ej\u00e9rcito y que invertir en el \u00c1rtico es fundamental para el futuro. Agreg\u00f3 que el Norte se est\u00e1 abriendo y que hay muchas razones para estar all\u00ed. Fuhr tambi\u00e9n declar\u00f3 que en esa regi\u00f3n hay problemas de seguridad y de desarrollo de recursos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Por su parte, el ministro de Econom\u00eda de Quebec, Christopher Skeete, se refiri\u00f3 a los beneficios de la construcci\u00f3n del Polar Max, dijo que es una alianza y una responsabilidad compartida del Norte, por la que se puede aprovechar las fortalezas de los pa\u00edses en t\u00e9rminos de protecci\u00f3n mar\u00edtima del \u00c1rtico.
