Los canadienses est\u00e1n dejando de viajar a Estados Unidos a un ritmo sin precedentes. En enero de 2026, los viajes en coche de residentes canadienses hacia EE.UU. cayeron un 26.8% en comparaci\u00f3n con el mismo mes del a\u00f1o anterior, y los viajes en avi\u00f3n bajaron un 17.8%, seg\u00fan datos de Statistics Canada publicados a mediados de marzo. Para la comunidad hispana en Canad\u00e1, que hist\u00f3ricamente usa aeropuertos estadounidenses como Miami, Nueva York o Houston como escala hacia sus pa\u00edses de origen, este fen\u00f3meno tiene consecuencias directas en c\u00f3mo viajamos y cu\u00e1nto pagamos por hacerlo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Un boicot pol\u00edtico con cifras econ\u00f3micas reales<\/b><\/h2>\n

El movimiento, conocido como el \u00abCanada-US Travel Boycott\u00bb, se gest\u00f3 a finales de 2024 como respuesta a los aranceles impuestos por la administraci\u00f3n Trump y a declaraciones sobre la posible anexi\u00f3n de Canad\u00e1. Lo que empez\u00f3 como una reacci\u00f3n pol\u00edtica se convirti\u00f3 r\u00e1pidamente en un cambio de comportamiento masivo. Aerol\u00edneas canadienses como Air Canada, WestJet y Flair han recortado aproximadamente 450,000 asientos en rutas transfronterizas para 2026, y la industria tur\u00edstica estadounidense proyecta p\u00e9rdidas de hasta 4,500 millones de d\u00f3lares canadienses derivadas del menor flujo de viajeros del norte. Las tiendas libres de impuestos en la frontera reportan ca\u00eddas de ventas de hasta el 80% en algunos puntos. Para los latinoamericanos que viven en Canad\u00e1, viajar a su pa\u00eds de origen sol\u00eda implicar casi siempre una escala en Miami, Nueva York, Houston o Dallas. Esas rutas siguen disponibles, pero el clima pol\u00edtico y el riesgo de controles migratorios m\u00e1s agresivos en suelo estadounidense, especialmente para quienes tienen estatus migratorio pendiente en Canad\u00e1, ha hecho que muchos prefieran evitarlos. La buena noticia: las aerol\u00edneas est\u00e1n respondiendo a la demanda. Air Canada, WestJet y aerol\u00edneas latinoamericanas han incrementado vuelos directos desde Toronto, Montreal y Vancouver hacia Ciudad de M\u00e9xico, Bogot\u00e1, Lima, Canc\u00fan y San Jos\u00e9, en algunos casos con tarifas competitivas. Es recomendable siempre en Google Flights o Skyscanner activando el filtro \u00absin escalas\u00bb o \u00abescala no en EE.UU.\u00bb para comparar opciones.<\/span><\/p>\n

Para viajar a M\u00e9xico, Colombia, Venezuela, El Salvador, Per\u00fa o cualquier otro pa\u00eds latinoamericano, se aconseja tomar las siguientes precauciones: primero, el estatus migratorio en Canad\u00e1 (si est\u00e1 en proceso) (permiso de trabajo, residencia permanente pendiente, visa de estudiante), consultar con un experto antes de hacer escala en Estados Unidos, ya que los controles fronterizos en aeropuertos americanos pueden generar complicaciones. Segundo, comparar activamente vuelos directos desde aeropuertos canadienses: la oferta ha mejorado mucho en los \u00faltimos meses. Tercero, revisar si el destino requiere visa o permiso especial para ciudadanos canadienses o residentes con pasaporte latinoamericano; las reglas cambian con frecuencia.<\/span><\/p>\n
