Baxdrostat, desarrollado por la farmac\u00e9utica AstraZeneca, mostr\u00f3 resultados alentadores en pacientes cuya presi\u00f3n arterial no lograba controlarse con los f\u00e1rmacos disponibles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los hallazgos del ensayo cl\u00ednico fueron presentados durante el Congreso de la Sociedad Europea de Cardiolog\u00eda 2025 en Madrid y publicados en paralelo en la revista <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New England Journal of Medicine<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Seg\u00fan los investigadores, si obtiene la aprobaci\u00f3n regulatoria, el f\u00e1rmaco se convertir\u00eda en una de las innovaciones m\u00e1s significativas en d\u00e9cadas en el manejo de la hipertensi\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En el estudio participaron 800 adultos con hipertensi\u00f3n resistente, es decir, personas que manten\u00edan cifras elevadas de presi\u00f3n a pesar de tomar dos o m\u00e1s medicamentos durante al menos cuatro semanas. Los pacientes fueron divididos en tres grupos: uno recibi\u00f3 1 miligramo de baxdrostat, otro dos miligramos y un tercero un placebo, adem\u00e1s de continuar con sus tratamientos habituales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tras 12 semanas, cerca del 40% de los pacientes tratados con baxdrostat alcanzaron niveles saludables de presi\u00f3n arterial, frente a menos del 20 % de quienes recibieron placebo. En promedio, el medicamento redujo la presi\u00f3n sist\u00f3lica, el valor superior de la medici\u00f3n, entre 9 y 10 mmHg m\u00e1s que el placebo, una disminuci\u00f3n suficiente para reducir el riesgo cardiovascular.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Un enfoque novedoso en el control de la presi\u00f3n arterial<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A diferencia de los f\u00e1rmacos tradicionales, que act\u00faan relajando los vasos sangu\u00edneos, eliminando l\u00edquidos o bloqueando hormonas espec\u00edficas, baxdrostat se dirige a la aldosterona, una hormona producida por las gl\u00e1ndulas suprarrenales que regula la sal y el equilibrio h\u00eddrico del organismo. Un exceso de aldosterona puede causar retenci\u00f3n de l\u00edquidos y elevar la presi\u00f3n arterial, adem\u00e1s de da\u00f1ar vasos, coraz\u00f3n y ri\u00f1ones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los efectos adversos observados fueron leves en general, principalmente alteraciones en los niveles de sodio y potasio, aunque poco frecuentes. Los investigadores subrayan, no obstante, la necesidad de contar con datos a largo plazo para evaluar su seguridad y eficacia sostenida.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AstraZeneca anunci\u00f3 que planea presentar la documentaci\u00f3n correspondiente a las agencias reguladoras antes de que finalice 2025.
